Issue IX — The Melic Review

From Issue IX of The Melic Review

Issue IX of The Melic Review was published during the journal's early years, part of a run of 27 issues spanning 1999 to 2008.

The Melic Review, founded and edited by C.E. Chaffin, published poetry, essays, fiction, and literary criticism. The journal's name derives from the Greek melos (song) — melic poetry was lyric verse composed for musical accompaniment, a tradition dating to the 7th century BCE and poets like Sappho and Alcaeus.

Each issue featured a curated selection of work from both established and emerging writers, maintaining the editorial standard reflected in the journal's motto: meaning, economy, lyricism, innovation, clarity.
