BODY LANGUAGE

It's nothing more
than a look, a smile,
a bit of jostling in the kitchen
when no one else is there.
That long steady look
from across the room,
flat as a prairie,
like wind rippling the grasses
with wistful speculation
blowing both ways.
But I know, and you know,
you will soon be hunting up her coat —
and my ride
is waiting downstairs.
