DRIVING ICARUS

compelled by experience
I follow advice with admonitions
spells and curses appropriate
for various circumstance

he sits beside me glum
and inattentive wanting
silence solitude and the wheel

I have the drop on him:
accelerate into the curve
never brake on black ice
keep a safe distance apart

he sings of mythical beasts
and the power of horses
freedom to fly from my arms

wings are terrible things
I hover here sheltering
knowing all too soon
I will be blinded by sun.
