IN RELATION TO THE DRIVER AND THE ROAD

She didn't know they were
rounding a turn
until she caught herself
in the rearview mirror.
She had wanted to
watch him drive, but saw
an earring instead, pushing
onto her neck. Thick
and cool, what mark
would it leave? The other,
iris blue and just as prone
to movement, held an angle
as if reaching for someone.
The center of my world, she thought,
isn't where it should be.
