MORNING GLORY POOL — TWO VIEWS

You were the sky
poured upside down
and cupped in limestone,
glowing sapphire
set in pale bone.

The temptation
to dip and swirl
my fingers!
I tossed a penny in for luck
and trotted on.

1998

Copper marries badly
with pale limestone;
why swirl
my fingers
on algaed bone?

Too much copper
has stained your sky.
I clench
my lucky penny
and hurry by.
