JAKE
VAGUS
Watermelon in
a Pool
Lounging in aqua cool
the color of the grass
bobbing at the coax
of submerged hands
In gray shadows-
a blubbering
blob churning,
like a baby’s smooth belly.
It’s hollow down below
in goopy silence.
"Pat, Pat, your place is….plush."
"But I’ve got my problems too Bob:
bourbon, those boat bills, burgeoning gout.
Care for more soup?"
A bee zipping
above the question,
the thrushing wind,
the intermittent clink
of construction nearby,
and an anchor woman droning the news
on CNN.
