Careful Preparation

Nervously, I prepare
for the rendezvous, planned
weeks ago. Meticulously
showering, soaping, scrubbing:
close attention to private areas;
shaving cautiously, sure
to get each hair in every
delicate curve.

Smother lotion
on limbs and belly;
dabble just a little scent
discreetly between the thighs;
dress in clothes
easy to peel off and
hastily put back on later.

Park in the back lot;
apprehensive, I
enter the building;
butterflies in my stomach
as I go to meet with...

... my gynecologist.
